TRIGG BEACH – WA/AUS (Wednesday 18th October 2017), Rivalries are set to intensify between Western Australia’s best boardriding clubs this Saturday, with Trigg Beach set to host the fifth event of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series.

The nationwide celebration of grassroots surfing will see clubs nominate a squad of their six best surfers to compete in an exciting and dynamic format. Each squad will consist of one Under-18 Junior surfer, four Open age surfers, and one Over-35 Masters surfer, with a least one female surfer to be included in the mix

Five Western Australian boardriding clubs will converge on Perth’s metropolitan beaches and challenge for $3,000 prize money and the chance to represent WA at the nudie Boardriders Battle National Final in NSW in February 2018.

Defending event champions Geraldton Boardriders will spearhead an impressive field of regional clubs competing on the weekend. Powerhouses Margaret River, and Yallingup will be joined by Cowaramup Bay and local club Trigg Point Boardriders in what is set to be an awesome display of the depth and talent of local boardriding clubs in WA.

“Western Australia has a strong and well supported boardriding club system and it’s clear that the clubs love the opportunity to compete and interact,” said Surfing WA’s events manager Justin Majeks. “With bragging rights up for grabs for a 12 month period, you can guarantee everyone who hits the water will be doing everything they can to try secure victory for their club.”

Competition is set to get underway on Saturday morning from 8am with finals concluding in the mid afternoon. Clean summer-like conditions are forecast at Trigg Beach.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National final in NSW in February 2018 for 24 clubs.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.

The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide.  In the past four years, Surfing Australia has invested over $600,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.

Major sponsors of the 2017/18 series include the naming rights partner nudie and supporting sponsors Oakley, Nikon, Woolworths, Milwaukee, Destination NSW, Newcastle City Council, World Surfaris, World Surf League, mySURF.tv and Surfing Australia.
